whats in my makeup bag

I've been asked a time or two about the makeup products I use and how I use them. I am by no means an expert. I have a routine I go through every day that's quick and easy. Most days I've either got Mia hanging on my leg, or I'm competing for my blush brush with Bella. Yes that's already happening. It's also fast because I just don't have the patience to stand in the mirror forever. Never have. So when I find something that works, I stick with it. I have found a few products that for me, are tried and true. And I always love seeing what products people use, so I thought I'd share mine with you today!

This is what my makeup looks like on a typical day.  Sorry this picture isn't 100% clear. I didn't want to pull out my camera, so this one was taken with my phone. You get the idea though. {and seriously, how awkward is it to take your own picture??}

Ok, here we go.

 1. MAC Eye Shadow in Rice Paper

This one is my all time favorite. It comes off as a pretty sheer cream color. I use it as a highlighter under my brown bone, the inner corner of my eye and the outer corner. This is my biggest "tip" for opening up the eye and giving you a fresh "awake" look.

2. MAC Eye Shadow in Satin Taupe

I use this all over my eye lid. It's a good soft, neutral color for every day, and it doesn't crease.

3. ELF Concealer in light beige.

I love this concealer. Not only is it only a dollar {holla!} It just goes on really nice. I have dry skin so I have to be careful with what I put on under my eye. I hate that caked, creased look that some concealer gives. This one glides on nice and smooth. It's not too thick and it's not too thin. I buy a couple at a time because it doesn't last a long time and because did I mention it's only a dollar? Target carries E.L.F.  Go check it out. I also like using their brushes because mine tend to disappear {eh hem Bella}

4. Mac Blush in Coppertone

I can wear this color in the summer when I'm tan and the winter when I'm pale. It works all year round.

5. Rimmel Glam Eyes Mascara in Black.

I've used many a mascara in my day. I love this one because of the wand. It gets all of my eye lashes and separates them out.  I use mascara on both my top lashes and bottom. It opens my eye up and gives that "doe eyed" look.

6. Mac lipstick in Honey love.

I like a nude lip. I have a lot of red in my lips so I also put a dab of concealer on my lips to neutralize them even more. This lipstick is pretty matte so I always put a gloss over it.

7. MAC Eye Shadow in Humid

When I'm going somewhere that I want to step it up a little, I'll add a little more drama to my eyes. This is a dark green color. I use a small angled brush, dab it with a tiny bit of water and use as an eye liner. Sometimes I use it as my all over color instead of the satin taupe, but it's a bit heavy so this isn't an every day shadow.

8. MAC Bronzing Powder in Refined Golden.

I don't use this every day either, but on days where I look in the mirror and say "whoa, you need some sun sister" I'll use a big bronzing brush and put this on my "t-zone"...forehead, nose and chin.

9. Mac Lustreglass in Love Nectar

Love the consistency to this lip gloss. I'm a lip gloss nut. This one is perfect, not too thick. I use just a bit over my lipstick, but most days I use it alone.

10. Anastasia Eye Brow Whiz in Medium Ash.
Source: sephora.com via Laura on Pinterest

I use this to fill in some of the spaces of my brows. I have a couple of weird spots, this fills them in without looking too "done." It's got the pencil on one side and a brush on the other.

You'll notice something missing is foundation. I have never been a fan of the way face makeup looks on me. But, I feel like maybe I just haven't found the right product. I would love to find something that goes on nice and sheer, not cakey, but gives me some even, glowy coverage. Am I asking too much? Do you have a foundation you love? Tell me about it, I'd love to find one I love too!

If you have a makeup product you love, share it with me. Every now and then I get the urge to switch things up so if I've missing out on something, tell me, I just might need to try it!

  3. love mac for their blush and eyeshadow as well, i cant do the whole liquid foundation thing either it looks to caked on and so bad for your skin! I LOVE bare minerals, so worth the price! Be sure to have one of the girls match it for you without any makeup on so it matches your undertone. Get the origional "prime time" from them as well, totally helps my super dry skin! It is the fastest most natural foundation out there :) let me know what you think!!

  4. You are so pretty. :) And YES, always awkward to take a pic of yourself... You want to look relaxed, yet cute and poised, but not like the photo's staged and on purpose....all in one. :) And you just feel so darn silly all the while!

    I can't leave my house without eyeliner on. :)

  7. I've been following your blog for a short time now and love it! Thanks for what you do!

    The only foundation I've ever found that does well on my skin is Alison Raffaele. Amazing quality and coverage without caking or feeling gross all day.

  10. You're the cutest! So pretty. Seriously need to meet you next time you come to visit Vanessa. I LOVE mac too! Their paintpot in Painterfly is my FAV product. It's a cream eyeshadow/primer - it's so neutral. Most days I wear it alone all over my lid up to my brow. When I wear heavier eye makeup I use it under my shadow!

    Thanks for sharing :)

  11. Gorgeous picture!

    I'm not a foundation girl either, it always feels way too heavy! I do LOVE my tinted moisturizer with sunscreen though! One light layer and it evens everything out and gives me a smooth silky base without being sticky and it protects! I live on the Mary Kay Tinted Moisturizer, I've been using it for 7 years now and have no intention of giving it up. I'm pretty low maintenance. Moisturizer, Concealer under eyes, around corners of nose, (occasionally I'll top with light loose powder to reduce shine in this Houston humidity!) a little blush or bronzer, shimmer neutral eye shadow, eye liner, mascara and tinted lip balm. All neutral colors unless it's something dressy at night then I'll accent with a little plum. And I love the light shimmer in the corners of eyes and brow bone, I do the same thing!

    I may have to copy your post idea next week, it's tempting me a bit, I'm no expert, but I know what works for me and love it.

  12. I love using a tinted moisturizer, but make sure it is not lighter then your skin color, if anything it is safer to be darker when it comes to tinted moisturizer better to have a warm glow then ghosty white haha! I used marykays tinted lotion with spf and love it and when I ran out I bought covergirls and it is not so great it is too thick, so I suggest marykay for that.. but for foundation I have used mineral makeup for 8 years. I got recommended it from my dermatologist (Young Blood brand then) and now I used BareMinerals, it doesnt dry your skin out and it also is so light it helps from clogging pores. I know you have been getting back into spinning and the great thing about mineral makeup you dont feel like you need to wipe it off before working out, I run with it and I don't feel gross or cakey. the best thing about it is it give you a nice even finish but natural, which is the most important to me.
